Reductil adrug treatment to help those who are obese to lose weight. Produced by Abbott Laboratories, sibutramine reduces food intake by promoting a feeling of having eaten enough. Sibutramine may increase blood pressure in some people, therefore blood pressure should be monitored regularly.
Reductil is a medication prescribed by doctors for the treatment of obesity.
How Reductil works
Reductil works like other appetite suppressants on the market by increasing the amount of serotonin and catecholamine in the brain. Serotonin and catecholamine are two important chemicals that control mood and appetite. When levels of serotonin and catecholamine are raised, your appetite decreases.
How to take Reductil
The normal recommended dose for Reductil is one 10 mg or 15 mg tablet a day at least one hour before your eat.
DO NOT take Reductil if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors within the past 14 days such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), or phenelzine (Nardil).
What to tell your doctor
If you have kidney disease, liver disease, glaucoma, gallstones, epilepsy (or any other seizure disorder), history of stroke, heart problems, or high blood pressure talk to your doctor. You may not be able to take Reductil or you may require a dosage adjustment. Also, DO NOT take Reductil without first consulting with your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing.
Reductil side effects
Reductil is mild in nature and produces fewer side effects compared to other appetite suppressants on the market. In clinical studies, the most common side effects were increased blood pressure and/or heart rate, headache, dry mouth, constipation, and sleeplessness.
